Santa Cruz - Llanganuco

 

Timing: 4days

Day 1: Huaraz – Cashapampa

At indicated time alter to have breakfast; we depart in a private bus to Cashapampa village 2920m. In the way we visit towns such as: Carhuaz, Mancos, Yungay and Caraz, from this town we take the route to Cashapampa, where will wait for us the Arrieros with the pack animals to start our trekking. After of four hours we arrive to Llamacorral 3760m. The transfer by private bus takes 3 hours approximately.

Day 2: Llamacorral - Taullipampa

This day afer to have breakfast we depart to Taullipampa 4200m, during the trekking we will have views of mountains such as: Caraz 6020m, Quitaraju 6036m, Santa Cruz 6259m, Artesonraju 6025m; then we will see Alpamayo 5947m “World’s most beautiful mountain”, also we will visit Ichicocha and Hatuncocha (translated into English means small and big lakes). The walking this days will take between 5 or 6 hours.

Day 3: Taullipampa – Punta Union - Cachinapampa

Early in the morning after to have breakfast we start walking up by a zigzag trail to get to Punta Union pass 4750m, from this point we will see the beautiful Taullicoha lake with its clear blue color that is situated below Taulliraju mountain 5530m, Punta Union is the highest point of this circuit in this place is a custom to stop to take pictures of the mounts that are located around this place mounts like: Taulliraju, Artesonraju and Quitaraju. After to have been here for a moment we will go down to Paria valley viewing in the way the mountain of the same name after we continue until to arrive to the campsite called Cachinapamapa located at 3600m. This day we walk approximately 8 hours.

Day 4: Cachinapampa – Vaqueria - Huaraz

This day is very quiet. After to have breakfast we continue with our trekking, this day we will visit Huaripampa village to get after to Vaqueria, place where will wait for us the bus that will take back to Huaraz. During the way by bus we will stop in Portachuelo 4750m, from here we will have nice views of mountains such as: Huascaran 6768m, “World’s highest tropical mountain”, Chopicalqui 6354m, Huandoys and its four peaks, Pisco 5750m, Chacraraju 6112m, also we will visit Llanganuco lakes, Orgoncocha and Chinancocha (Translate into English mean Male and Female lakes respectively)

Honda – Ulta, circuit

Timing: 8 days

Day 1: Huaraz – Marcará -Vicos - Rinconada

Our trip starts in Vicos village, but also is possible to go by car to a place called La Rinconada where we will spend the first night.

Day 2: Rinconada – Portachuelo de Honda 4750 m - Juitush

From the campsite La Rinconada we continue with our trip, this time we will walk up to Portachuelo de Honda pass 4750 m, then we continue for Juitush ravine, where we will spend the second night .

Day 3: Juitush – Chacas

At indicated time, after the breakfast we depart, this time with leave for Chacas town, a typical town where we will find craftsmen who develop very interesting works, in this town we will spend the night.

Day 4: Chacas - Sapcha

From Chacas town we continue our trip passing for Acochaca village to get to other village named Sapcha, where we will camp.

Day 5: Sapcha – Yanama

From Sapcha we continue with our trip this time walking up to Pupash high pass 4050 m, then to walk down to Yanama, place where we will spend the night.

Day 6: Yanama – Avalancha

Our trip continue through Keshu ravine, in the way we find sown fields by the inhabitants of this part of the Cordillera Blanca, walking up we will arrive to the place named Avalanche, where we will spend the night.

Day 7: Avalancha – Passo Yanayacu 4830 m - Quebrada Ulta

At indicated time as the previous days, after the breakfast we continue with our trip this day we will walk up to Yanayacu pass 4850 m, from where we will have beautiful view of the snow-capped mountain Chopicalqui, descending will find Yanayaku lake, also we will observe Huascarán mount, by the end our last camp will be here.

Day 8: Quebrada Ulta – Huaraz

Last day of trip, close to this campsite there is a road, where a bus will come to take and transfer us to Huaraz.

Huayhuash circuit

 

Timing: 12 days

Day 1: Huaraz – Cuartelwain 4105m
Around 8:00 a.m. after the breakfast, we pick up you in a private car to South of Cordillera Blanca, after of 6 hours we arrive to Cuartelwain, in the way we visit towns like: Conococha, Chiquian, Llamac and Pocpa. Camping night
Day 2: Cuartelwain – Qaqanan pass 4700m – Mitucocha 4230m
In the morning (around 6:30 a.m.) before you get up our cook will offer you hot drinks, after you will have breakfast. Today is hard we have to reach the first pass 4700m, we need at least 2 hours to reach the pass. After to rest and have taken some photos we walk down to Janca valley and then we take the trail that take us at the shores of Mitucocha lake below Rondoy and Hirishanca mounts, where we will set up our campsite.
Day 3: Mitucocha – Carhuac pass 4650m - Carhuacocha
The hot drink will repeat every morning, after the breakfast usually around 8:00 a.m. we must to start walking for the next camp. Today we walk up to Carhuac pass 4650m, where get after 2 hours approximately, in this point we rest and take some photos of Siula Grande, Yerupaja, Yerupaja Chico mounts. Form this point, we walk down for 1 and a half hour at the shores of Carhuacocha lake, located below the mounts mentioned. Camping night.
Day 4: Carhuacocha – Siula pass 4800m – Huayhuash 4300m
At indicated time we depart to Siula pass for an alternative trail, different that take the Horsemen and pack animals, in the way we visit Three lakes below Yerupaja and Siula Grande mounts, besides to Carhuacocha lake. After of 3 and a half hours we get the pass, an interesting point, from where we can see very close The South Face of Yerupaja, Siula Grande and Carnicero peaks. After to have taken photos, we walk down to Huayhuash campsite where get after of 2 and a half hour. Camping night.
Day 5: Huayhuash – Portachuelo pass 4750m – Viconga 4400m
At indicated time we star walking up to Portachuelo pass, the limit between Cordilleras Huayhuash and Raura, form this point we can look at both mountain ranges, is very interesting. After we walk down to Viconga lake, our campsite will be set up to the other side of the lake. We get to this camp after 2 hours more. 15 minutos away from the campsite there is a hot spring, there is an small swimming pool where is possible to swim, take with you basic swimming clothes. Camp night.
Day 6: Viconga - Cuyoc pass 5000m - Guanacpatay 4300m
At indicated time after the breakfast we walk up to Cuyoc pass 5000m, the highest pass in the circuit, we get there after 3 hours approximately, from this point we can see most of the peaks of Cordillera Raura and peaks like: Puscanturpa, Cuyoc, Siula, Tsacra of Cordillera Huayhuash. After to take photos we walk down to Viconga valley (1.5 hours) where we will set up our camping.
Day 7: Guanacpatay – San Antonio pass 4850m – Cutatambo 4250m
At indicated time, we start waling up to san Antono pass where we get after of 2.5 hours, from this point we look at Carnicero, Sarapo, Siula Grande, Yerupaja mounts and Juarao and Sarapococha lakes. After to rest and taken some photos we walk down to Cutatambo campsite, where get after 2 hours. Camping night.
Day 8: Cutatambo, visit Joe Simpon’s base camp
At indicated time, we start walking to Siula Grande glacier made famous by Joe Simpson in Touching the Void, also we can see his base camp, Jurao lake and South face of Yerupaja mount. We return to the campsite to have lunch this day we will have a typical Andean dish Pachamanca (lamb meat, potatoes cooked by heated stones ). Camping night.
Day 9: Cutatambo – Huayllapa 3600 m – Huatiaq 4600 m
At indicated time we start walking to Huayllapa village where we arrive after of 3 hours, then we take the trail that goes up to Huatiaq campsite, we arrive there after 3 hours more.
Day 10: Huatiaq – Tapush pass 4800m - Yahucha pass 4750m – Jahuacocha 4070m
Today we have to start walking earlier because we have two passes the same day. We get to the first past after of 2 hours, the next pass after 2 hours more, form the second pass (Yahucha) we have an impressive view of Cordillera Huayhuash, we look the most beautiful faces of the snow covered peaks, we get Jahuacocha campsite after 2 hours of walking down.
Day 11: Day off
Visit Cerro Amarillo, from this place we have a nice view of the mountains: Rondoy, Ninashanca, Hirishanca, Yerupaja, Etc. lakes: Solteracocha, Rasaca ant the two lakes of Jahuacocha. If you want you can fish.
Day 12: Jahuacocha – Pampa Llamac pass 4300 m – Llamac - Huaraz
Last trekking day in Cordillera Huayhuash, at indicated after the breakfast we walk up to Pampa Llamac pass, where we get after 2.5 hours, from this point we can see for last time very close the impressive peaks of Cordillera Huayhuash; after we walk down to Llamac village (2 hours) where wait for us a private transport to take back us to Huaraz city.

Huayhuash Raura

 

Timing: 9 days

Day 1: Huaraz – Llámac

At indicated time from the hotel we take a bus with address to the south of Huaraz, visiting in the way Conococha lake, Chiquian town, to arrive to Llámac village, gateway of Cordillera Huayhuash. We wil spend our first night here.

Day 2: Llámac - Paso Pampa Llámac 4300 m - Jahuacocha

After having breakfast we leave for, this day we will go up to Pampa Llámac pass, from where we will have impressive views of the western side of Cordillera Huayhuash, among the mountains to see are: Rondoy, Hirishanca, Toro, Yerupajá, Rasac and others, afterto tkae some photos, we go down to Jahucocha lake, our camp will be made on the banks of this lake.

Day 3: Jahuacocha - Paso Zambunya 4750 m - Cuartelwain

Continuing with our trip, this day we go up to Zambunya pass, very close to Hirishanca and Rondoy mountains, from this pass we have a nice view of Yerupajá mount whosw wall is approximately 1100 meters, also can be seen other mounts, after we go down to Rondoy ravine and continue walking on the banks of Llámac river to get to Caurtelwain campsite

Day 4: Cuartelwain - Paso Qaqanan 4750 m - Mitucocha

This day we will go up to Qaqanan pass, from where we will see both sides of Cordillera Huayhuash, later we will go down to Janca ravine, then to camp on the banks of the Mitucocha lake.

Day 5: Mitucocha - Carhuac pass 4600 m - Carhuacocha

At indicate time, after having breakfast we leave for our next destination, we ascend up to Carhuac pass from where we have extraordinary views of the snow-capped mountains such as: Siulá Grande, Yerupajá, Toro, betweenamong others, of the oriental side of Cordillera Huayhuash, later we descend on the banks of the Carhuacocha lake where we will make our camping.

Day 6: Carhuacocha - Siulá pass 4850 m - Huayhuash

We starts our walking on the banks of Carhuacocha lake, under the snow-capped mountains: Toro, Yerupajá, Siulá Grande, int he way we pass a samml ravine where we will find three lakes: Qanrajanka, Siulacocha and Quesillococha, in the trail is possible see avalanches of the mentioned mountains, our ascent will continue up to Siulá pass, it is difficult; but the effort is worthy, because from the pass can be seen the most beautiful sides of. Yerupaja, Siula grande, Toro among other mountains.

Day 7: Huayhuash - Portachuelo pass 4750 m - Viconga

At indicated time, after the breakfast, we leave for Viconga, this day the ascent is not so difficult as the previous day, the way takes us to Portachuelo pass, limit between Cordillera Raura and Cordillera Huayhuash, from this high pass is possible see the immense glacier of Cordillera Raura called León Waqanan, later we will walk down to Viconga lake in the way is possible to meet llamas and alpacas, We will walk by the banks of Viconga lake, to aarrive to our campsite. Only to 15 minutes of the campsite there is a hot spring, where one can take a shower.

Day 8: Viconga - Paso Portachuelo de Viconga 4800 m - Surasaca.

From Viconga campsite we continue between the small lakes Purectishqo and Challhuacocha for a dirty road to get to Portachuelo de Viconga pass from where can be seen mountains such as: Quesillojanka, Cullcushjanka and Yarupac, later we go down to the banks of Surasaca lake where we will encamp. From this campsite we will have a nice view of Santa Roasa mount.

Day 9: Surasaca - Churín - Lima

At indicated time, after the breakfast a bus will come to take and transfer us to Lima in the way we will visit Churín, a known town to have hot springs and finally to arrive to Lima.

Olleros – Chavín

 

Timing: 3 days

Day 1: Huaraz – Olleros – Sacrancha

We take a bus to Olleros village, from where we start our walk, a trail to the right side of the Río Negro will lead us, between eucalyptuses, after we will arrive to a black green landscape proper of the Andes, in the way we will have nice views of of the snow-capped mountains Uruashraju, Rurec and Cashan. Our first camp will be raised in the place named Sacracancha.

Day 2: Sacracancha - Paso Yanashallash 4700 m - Hatunruri

At the time indicated, after having breakfast we leave, this time we will walk up towards Yanashallash pass 4700 m, between ichus (Stipa Ichu) and other proper plants of this part of the region, from the pass can be observed the oriental side of the Cordillera Blanca, then we walk down to Hatunruri ravine, where we will spend the second night.

Day 3: Hatunruri - Chavín de Huantar

Last trekking day, we leave as the previous daysat the indicated time after the breakfast, this time the trail is among hillsides, among crop`s of Sonqo ravine, we cross by Jato village, later we arrive to the Archaeological Center of Chavín de Huantar, an archaeological place that has a important historical cultural value for the Andean civilization, after realizing the corresponding visit we take a bus to return to Huaraz city.

Quilcayhuanca – Cojup

 

Timing: 3 days

Day 1:  Huaraz – Pitec – Quilcayhuanca (4400 m.asl.)

At indicated time we take the bus to Portada de Quilcayhuanca, passing in the way Unchus, Llupa villages; from Portada de Quilcayhuanca we will walk around 5 hours, before to set up our tent below Choco pass 4400m.

Day 2: Quilcayhuanca – Choco Pass (5000 m. asl.) – Cojup (4300 m.asl.)

Form our campsite we, walk up to Choco pass 5000m, from this poihnjtwe have nice views of mountains of the central part of Cordillera Blanca, among them we can see, Cayesh, Ranrapalca, Ishinca, Palcaraju, etc. and lakes  such as: Perolcocha, Tullparaju and Cullicocha. After we will go down to Cojup valley 4300m.

Day 3: Cojup – Huaraz

From Cojup campsite we will walk down to Portada de Cojup, where we will take our bus to return to Huaraz.

Santa Cruz - Ulta

Day 1: Huaraz – Cashapampa

Day 5: Molinopampa – Yanayacu lake

At indicated time, after to have breakfast we Hill walk up to Yanayacu 4850m, from this point we will have niceviews of Choipicalqui mountain, Contrahierbasm, Chequioraju , Huascaran, etc. After to have taken photos we will go down to Yanayaku lake 4500m, this day we will walk around 6 hours.

Day 6: Yanayacu - Huaraz

Afer to have breakfast we continue walking until Ulta ravine, that is located close to our campsite. This time thee bus will come to take us  to our campsite. In the way by bus we will stop in Carhuaz to taste the best ice cream of the region.

Alpamayo 5947m

 

Timing: 6 days

Day 1: Huaraz – Cashapampa  – Llamcorral 3800 m

At indicated time after to have breakfast we leave to the North in the way we will visit typical towns such us: Tarica, Marcará, Carhuaz, Yungay and Caraz. After we will take take a dirty road to Chashapampa village where will meet with the Arriero and the pack animals. From this point we will walk up through Santa Cruz valley, after three hours we will get to Llamacorral where we will camp.

Day 2: Llamacorral – Base camp  4300 m

This day we continue our trip in the same valley (Santa Cruz) in the trail we will visit Jatuncocha and Ichicocha lakes, after we will take the way to the North side to get to the base camp.

Day 3: Base camp – Camp I 5000 m

After the breakfast we will walk up through the moraine field to get to the glacier, where we will wear the mountaineering equipment to continue walking up on ice to the Camp I located at 5400 masl. where we will spend the night.

Day 4: Camp I – Summit 5947 – Camp I

This is the hardest day becuase we start working at 1 A.M. After to have breakfast and put our technical equipment on, we start a walk for approx. 1 hour to get the wall of Alpamayo mount, from this point we will climb up a wall of 70 º Approx to reach the summit, from where we have a previligiated view of the mountains and landscapes located around this mount. After to have taken the photos and enjoyed of the views,  we climb down rappelling to the Camp I where we will spend the night.

Day 5: Camp I – Base camp

At indicated time after the breakfast we will take the same way that took us to Camp I t return to Base camp where we will spend the night.

Day 6: Base camp - Huaraz

After the breakfast we continue returning for the same way that we went but this time to Cashapampa, where will wait for us a bus that will take back us to Huaraz city.

Huascaran 6768m

 

Timing: 6 days

Day 1: Huaraz – Musho – Base camp 4100m

We leave Huaraz, after to have breakfast in the hotel, we will take a bus to the north side of the Cordillera Blanca arriving to Musho a small village located below Huascaran mount, there we will meet with the Arriero and pack animals to transfer the technical equipment and food to base camp.

Day 2: Base camp – Camp I 5400 m

At indicated time after to have breakfast we start to walk up, this time our destination is the camp I, that is located in the glacier area, there we arrive after 5 hours approximately, in this place we will spend the second night in the mountain.

Day 3: Camp I – Camp II 6000m

This day we will climb up for about three hours to get to La Garganta a place that looks like a ‘Throat’, that is located between the two peaks (North and South) that has Huascaran, there are some parts where is necessary to climb small walls of 60 degrees before to get to Camp II.

Day 4: Camp II – Summit 6768m – Camp II

At 2:00 A.M. approximately we get up, have breakfast and start to climb up, after of 8 hours approximately we reach the summit of the highest tropical mountain around the world. After to take some photos we climb down to Camp II where we will spend one night more.

Day 5: Camp II – Base camp

The same path that takes us to camp II will permit us to return to base camp, after of 8 hours approximately. In this camp we will spend the last night in the mountain.

Day 6: Base camp - Haraz

At indicated time, after to have breakfast we will pack the equipment and other things to carry in the pack animals and return to Musho village where a bus will wait for us to return to Huaraz city.

Chopicalqui 6354m

 

Timing: 4 days

Day: Huaraz – Llanganuco – Base  Camp 4200m

At indicated time we to pick up you at you hotel. After we depart for to the North part of the Callejon de Huaylas to the town of Yungay where we will take the road to the East, arriving to the control of Huascaran National Park, after we will pass by the shores of Llanganuco lakes that are located in the valley of the same name getting to the a place called La Curva; from this part we walk up for around 2 hours to get to the Base camp.

Day 2: Base camp – Moraine camp 4600 m

After the breakfast we continue, this time we will walk up through a moraine terrain for about 4 hours to get to our campsite.

Day 3: Moraine camp – Camp I 5300 m

From Moraine camp we continue walking up, this time we will walk on snow, but previously we check all the mountaineering equipment that we will use; after of 4 hours of walking on snow we arrive to our next campsite.

Day 4: Camp I Summit 5334m – Moraine Camp

This day we get up very early generally at 2 A.M. to prepare everything before to leave. After the breakfast and when everything is ok we start climb up, after of 4 hours approx. we reach the summit where we will stay for a moment to appreciate and take photos of the mountains that are around this mount. From the summit we climb down to Moraine camp, where we will spend our last night in the mountain.

Day 5: Moraine camp – Base camp – Huaraz

The same way that we took to get to Moraine we will use to return in the place called la Curva will wait for us a bus that will take back us to Huaraz city.

Tocllaraju 6032m

 

Timing: 4 days

Day 1: Huaraz – Collón – Base camp 4300m

From Huaraz we leave at indicated time to Collón village, where the Arriero and pack animals wait for us, after to carry the equipment and food on the pack animals we start walking up among trees and bushes through Ishinca valley, after of 3 hours we arrive in Ishinca base camp at 4300 m.a.s.l.

Day 2: Base camp – Camp I 5100m

At indicated time alter to have breakfast we leave by a small trail, this time the porters help us to transport the equipment from base camp to camp I, after of 3 hours of walking up we arrive in Camp Im that is located in a glacier area, where we will spend the second night.

Day 3: Camp I – Tocllaraju summit 6032m – Base camp

At 2:00 A.M. very early we get up, after to have breakfast and being well equipped we start climb up, after of 6 hours approximately we reach the summit, from this point we have interesting and nice views of the other mountains that are around Tocllaraju mount, among them are: Ranrapalca, Pukaranra, Palcaraju, Ishinca, Urus, Etc. After to have taken some photos we climb down to base camp, arriving around 2:00 P.M. Free afternoon, in this campsite we will spend the last night.

Day 4: Base camp - Huaraz

At indicated time we get up, have breakfast and carry the equipments on the pack animals and go down thorough Ishinca valley to Collón village where a bus wait for us to come back to Huaraz city.

Pisco

 

Day 1: Huaraz – Cebollapampa 3900m – Base camp 4650m

From Huaraz we address to the North side along the Callejón de Huaylas, in the way we visit town such us: Tarica, Marcará, Carhuaz, Yungay, is from this last town that we take the way to the East, passing by the banks of Llanganuco lakes to arrive to Cebollapampa, from here we will go up to Base camp at 4600 m. Overnight.

Day 2: Base camp – Pisco summit 5750m – Base camp

Around 2.00 A.M. we get up, have breakfast and prepare to leave for, after of two hours going up we arrive in the glacier, from here we climb up, after of 6 hours we arrive on the summit, from here we have nice views of mountains that are located around this mountain among these mount are: Huandoys, Chacraraju, Yanapaccha, Artesonraju, Huascaran, Chopicalqui, Etc. having taken some photos we come back to base where we will spend the second night.

Day 3: Base camp - Huaraz

Ishinca

 

Timing: 3 days

Day 1: Huaraz – Collón – Base camp 4300m

Transfer from Huaraz to Collon village, where the Arriero and pack animals wait for us. From this village we will walk up through Ishinca ravine among trees and bushes proper of this part of Cordillera Blanca, getting to base camp after of 3 hours. Overnight.

Day 2: Base camp – Ishinca summit 5530m – Base camp

At 3:00 A.M. approximately we leave for after to have breakfast, we will walk up around three hours to arrive to the glacier, from here we continue three hours more to arrive to the summit, and we stay on the summit for a moment from where we will have nice views and take some photos of mountains such us: Ranrapalca, Pukaranra, Palcaraju, Tocllaraju, Etc, after we come back for the same way for where we climbed up. We return to the base camp, free afternoon and overnight.

Day 3: Base camp - Huaraz

At indicated time, after to have breakfast, we return through Ishinca valley to Collon village where the bus will wait for us to return to Huaraz city.

Vallunaraju

 

Timing: 3 days

Day 1: Huaraz – Llaca valley -  Base camp 4300m

At indicated time we leave to the East part of Huaraz city, we will take a dirty road that take us through Llaca valley among Andean bushes such as: quenual, quisuar, Etc. The bus arrives exactly to the Base camp where we will spend the night.

Day 2: Base camp – Summit 5675m – Base camp

This day we get up very early at 2:00 A.M. it is the properly climbing day, after the breakfast and to have checked the mountaineering equipment we start climb up to reach the summit after of 4 hours. We will have a moment to take photos and to see all landscapes that are around this mount, also from this point we can see completely the Huaraz city. After we climb down to the base camp.

Day 3: Base camp – Huaraz

The bus will take back us from the base camp to Huaraz city.
